Fishing and River Description
The Hiwassee is proably the most beautiful tailwater stream in
Tennessee. When you float it you feel as if you in the middle of no
where. There are no roads no houses, just you and the river. The only
exception is if you go at the height of tuber season you may have a bit of
company.
The Hiwassee is composed of a lot of bedrock that forms ledges and
drops. It is very, very, very technical rowing and can do a number to a
boat if you are not competent at the oars. It is recommended that you at
least float it once with a guide before attempting it on your own.
Please practice safe wading practices and be sure to check the
generation schedules before you go.

Special Regulations as of 2009
Apalachia Powerhouse downstream to USFS Big Bend Parking Area
- 14 inch minimum length limit on Brown Trout
- Only two trout in creel limit may be Brown Trout
L&N railroad bridge.
- Daily creel limit and possession limit is 2 trout
- 14 inch minimum length limit
- Use or possession of any bait is prohibited
- Trout less than 14 inches may not be in your possesion

Getting There
From Insterstate 75 you need to cut over to Hwy 411 by either Hwy 60 in
Cleveland, TN or Hwy 30 via Athens to Etowah. Once on Hwy 411 you
need to turn on to Kimsey Hwy towards Reliance, TN
