Fishing and River Description:
The South Holston Tailwater below South
Holston Dam is possibly one of the best fisheries in the east.  It has great
hatches of Sulphers and BWOs almost year round.  It can also be one of the
hardest rivers to match the hatch on.  Because of of the sheer volume of
hatchs, the South Holston's trout are some of the most educated trout in the
country.

Certain circumstances will call for long leaders, delicate casts and pin point
accuracy.  It regularly produces fish over 20 inches taken on dry flies.

Public wade access is limited to the dam and a few TWRA accesses.

My favorite way to fish the river is by drift boat, however you need to be sure of
generation schedules before you put in or you may be rowing more than you
would have wanted.
