Wow, I almost forgot how to log in as it has been so long since I last posted. Fortunately, I have been fishing, but between work and grad school, extra time is almost non-existent. Anyways this post is partial work and partial fun. Tom Rosenbauer just posted a video on Facebook that they have been working on up in Vermont. Yes, this is an advertisement of sorts, but I truly stand behind the FF101/201 initiative. As a company Orvis has put through over 25,000 participants through the FF101 program. That is a great thing for the sport, conservation, and all retailers as hopefully some of these people will continue on with the sport for years to come. I know some of you will say your local water is already too crowded etc., but if the sport doesen’t grow we won’t get great innovation or have small unique fly shops to hang out in and drink coffee either. It is a give and take. You just have to be more creative when picking your fishing spots, or better yet just call in sick a few extra times a year. Trust me fishing on Wednesday’s any were is awesome! Also, the guy in the video is Dan Davala a Fishing Manager in the DC area. The guy is ate up with flyfishing, even going so far as starting a spey shad fishing club! He is not a paid actor, but truly a great instructor and most importantly a huge fish bum.
If you're looking for a great way to get the family together outside, Orvis's FF101 class is the perfect event to get started. Fly fishing is a sport the whole family can participate in. All ages are welcome to attend the event, but those under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Bring the whole family and learn what this great sport is all about.
